Q: Why should I use a fractional marketer instead of hiring a part-time or full-time employee?
A: Experience and cost. Most small and mid-sized businesses hire entry-level marketers. Even a talented, junior marketer has limited experience working in different types of businesses and using a variety of marketing tactics. Plus, they can't possibly have all the skills required to execute your company's marketing (e.g. website development, search engine optimization, graphic design...) and they don't yet have a robust network of providers to get this work done effectively and efficiently. A fractional head of marketing from Pinch Hit Partners has over 20 years experience leading marketing programs and they have a vast network of functional experts to help get your program executed.
Looking at the cost, a full-time hire at a $50,000 salary will also require benefits, bonuses, taxes, computers, work spaces and recruiting costs. Working with a fractional resource will save you from paying all of these additional expenses.
Bonus: Employees inevitably get pulled into other projects and emergencies, taking away their focus from your growth goals. A fractional resource only focuses on your marketing!
Q: Do I need a financial CMO if I already employ a marketing manager?
A: If you can afford it, an external fractional head of marketing and an in-house resource will be a powerful combination. As noted above, if your marketing manager is at a junior level or you feel like you have to spend too much of your time providing direction to this employee, then a fractional head of marketing from Pinch Hit Partners will free up your time to work on other priorities and will provide peace of mind that the company's marketing is being run as professionally and efficiently as possible. Having the in-house marketing manager available will reduce the amount of outside vendors needed to work on your marketing projects.
Q: Do I still need an ad agency if I'm working with Pinch Hit Partners?
A: If you outsource all of your marketing work to Pinch Hit Partners, you will probably not need an ad agency. Many small and mid-sized businesses don't do much traditional advertising (TV, Radio, Print and Outdoor) that may require the creative skills of an ad agency. Should we need to tap into this type of skill set, we may work with an agency but we would do so on a project-by-project basis, skipping the expensive monthly agency retainer.
If you already work with an agency and would like to continue using them, your Pinch Hit Partners consultant can manage their day-to-day work for your company and make sure that they are delivering work that is on strategy and budget. Many CEOs and business owners have to manage their agencies but don't have the experience or time to do this effectively. We do this all the time!
Q: Does Pinch Hit Partners mark up the cost of third-party services like website development and search engine optimization?
A: Pinch Hit Partners charges a management fee to oversee your marketing program, which includes the management of third-party vendors. We do not mark up their invoices to you like most agencies do.
Q: Does my business need to be located in the same city as my fractional CMO or can they work remotely?
A: We are ready and able to work remotely for companies anywhere in the U.S.
Q: Does Pinch Hit Partners have minimum contract requirements?
A: If you engage with us for the services of a fractional CMO, we ask for a minimum of a three month contract. When working with us to outsource your on-going marketing project work (e.g. content marketing program, advertising program, marketing automation program, etc.) we require a 6-12 month contract. After that, you may cancel with 30-days notice.
Q: I have a specific question about my business. Can I speak with someone from Pinch Hit Partners on the phone?
A: Absolutely. Just fill out our contact form and someone will follow up with you.
